Life- thank you for my daughter
With eyes- pure and joyful
They cleanse- like fresh water
My darkness- and disconnection
Love- thank you for my mothers
Their strength- to conquer the unknown
To stand- by my blind folly
With care- they save me from my own
Luck- thank you for my woman’s honest
Smile- that brings me home
Her relentless- wise courage
Reminding me- to stay strong
Fear- thank you even for my father
Though- he left his only son
Taught me how- to understand others
Forgive- look up and carry on
Hope- thank you for the stories
That gave- birth to these words
Pain- thank you for the poets
That dared- to sing their song
To elevate- above constant worry
An escape- for the broken and lonesome
In them- I died and tasted glory
That made- my faith reborn
My heart- thank you for the sorrow
The hunger- and persistent soul
Which keeps- my mind though weary
Away- from ending it all
Passion- thank you for my brain
Confused- once dying to show off
Drowning- in a sea of vain
Still- for the true hopeful
Time- I thank you for this mess
I am- trying to resolve
Some days- it feels like the best
I know- it cannot be the worst
What else- can I ever
Ask- outside any one for
I have- these treasures yet
Found- these lines to set in stone
My truth- I get to convey
Declare- even when I’m gone
Thank you- stranger who relates
In any way- to my call
So- typically mundane
With- sincere aspirations
I thank- the gift of my breath
For many- moons that it sent
With wonder- in my direction
And the sun- for this ray
That shines- upon my conviction
I end- just where I began
Thankful to god- in my conclusion
