I just completed reading the book "All Hands Down" about the sinking of a U.S. Nuclear Powered Submarine in 1968 and this post is in response to that story. As a Submarine Sailor, I had heard the rumors surrounding this event during most of my enlistment, but since the evidence was filed away in top secret vaults there was only the "official" i.e. cover story to go by. After reading this book I now know that the rumors I heard then were true and only slightly exaggerated.
