LIMUW: SANTA CRUZ ISLAND
Driving down windswept,
entrenched Highway 101
watercolor angelic pink, baby blue bounces
off the perfectly intermittent rippled
sea speckled with ambitious surfers
on 12/12/2012
chaperoning Channel Islands
Latitude: 34.0036° N
Longitude: 119.7264° W
tectonic pinnacles extoll
rainbow bridge to the mainland
secure in their frozen
land of the isolate.
Sky snake, with his tongue,
gave fire on the slope.
It’s here for us when we drive red,
wear mirrored-sunglasses,
and reflect on the Chumash
and us, the settlers.
Wonder on how this land
was always here.
