THE EDISON SMOKE ROOM

If only you could see
this in my eyes.
You’d know this Cuban
humid quick-calm
dimmed night fit for us.

Beauty fit.

I’ve been running.
Now I’ve stopped.
And the water runs down
in sheets to lull me.
It’s good these soft lights.
This hum and gentle rattle.

It’s good.

And I imagine you humming along.
Just as you always did.

Momentary awareness leads to relishing in the moment.
No apology sought. No attachments. No engagements.
Just pure awareness of life’s nature,
fleeting consciousness, duration.

No regrets. I need to rest.
My empty membrane erodes
and leaves me open to original experience.

Life is most effusive and will exhaust.
No anguish, just wondering. Great wondering.

What will happen to us?
