Poetry: Your love story deleted scenes (A dedication to my pastor and his wife)
Your love story deleted scenes poem (This is an original piece I created as a dedication to my pastor (Rev. Sammy) and his wife (Pst. Gladys) during their 10th Wedding Anniversary this month. Enjoy)
Our parents’ story begins at their dowry during lunch,
Yours kicks off at the church,
She a Lady and he a Gent,
She a hard worker and him a prayer saint,
Wedding, marriage and children,
Here I enquire again,
No surprises from a teenage love?
Just a good boy and a girl in the house of the Lord to serve?
But tonight, tonight my friends,
We are not “serving” that way my darlings,
Tonight we review the deleted scenes in this soap opera,
Let us in the RomCom drama.
All my role models dated like Jacob and Rebecca,
Working years to finally make her his star,
Or like Boaz and Ruth,
Whom God rewarded for her faithfulness in walking in his path,
Or like Ester and the king,
Free from any previous dramatic fling,
Elikana and Hanna,
Aquila and Priscilla,
Etcetera etcetera,
Ohh, and like my mother, my teacher and my pastor,
No one was like Solomon,
With his “dirty” songs about the beauty of a woman,
OMG he mentioned breasts and thighs,
Wrote love letters and steamy songs.
Are my friends and I the only ones with the smut moments?
With beginnings we can’t tell our parents,
In the beginning, just before the “ten years ago”,
When you said “God, I am back, now let this past be gone.”
Didn’t you listen to Westlife, Wainaina and Queen Jane’s songs?
Each song creating memories of your love stories,
Or watched those five shilling movies?
Had moments inhaling each other’s breathe for hours?
Or locking gazes and making outrageous promises?
Was there no desire for kisses?
Irresistible urge for touches?
At least madam wore a see me through,
So he could tell the shape of her bum and thigh,
Since she was also praying for a breakthrough,
Mr. Gent, where was the animal-hunter-instincts in you?
Sneaking at night knocking at her window?
Were there no dreams?
Oh please bible or not, something got dumpy at least once.
No painful breakups that you made up right away?
When he didn’t show up on an agreed upon Saturday,
You didn’t walk all day in the sun and rain?
Since you had no luxury for coffee dates and road drive to some cabin,
Never were there chills when you heard each other’s voice in a crowd?
Where you’d start conversing in your head?
Didn’t you feel the terrifying dread of losing each other every time you said goodnight,
When she didn’t pick up her phone and she was out of sight?
The borrowing of each other stuff,
Meet-ups times more than enough,
How about your first colognes?
Don’t their scents tell stories?
Like instances you would play a hero,
Even though you could’ve died from just one blow,
Those are what we are celebrating tonight,
God’s doing and your participation in black and white!
Love makes a relation,
Relation makes a family union,
A family makes a home,
A major couples desire and hope,
You are a perfect picture of love, relation and family,
You have demonstrated and taught the basics to achieve that unity,
You have devoted time and resources for those that look up to you,
After ten years the shine over you is just starting to grow,
It’s evident that since you met you have given each other purpose in life,
The past of the potatoes situation and tomato seller,
And a poor fragile girl suffering from the world around her,
Is just a memory and you can finally smile,
Enjoying the blessing of a family so beautiful.
When it gets too cold for either of you today,
May the other melt the snow away,
Through each other you have found your way home,
Let this day give you a similar syndrome,
As that of the shivers from your first kiss,
May the God you have served together and apart,
Stick you together so nothing can tear you apart,
May your laughter kick any heartache out of your door,
Let sharing of his word be fun not a chore,
May His favor make your marriage glow,
And the romance forever flow,
May many testimonies be inspired by your union,
As God continue to make your story an advanced edition.
Happy 10th anniversary!!! By: CarolTim
