Haha. My experience there was also far from being casual. I went there with quite a lot of media coverage. And i was kind of special guest of the hotel belonging to one of the most powerful people in Kerala, which is humbling in itself....

Yeah, that must have been impactful! I enjoyed reading the articles you sent and passed them on to my mom @violetmed to check out. Being in the care of local celebrities would truly be a crazy experience!

Even in my case, so many of the children I taught had never gotten to meet a foreigner before and they thought I was a celebrity. They treated me with so much respect and camaraderie I felt it was all I could do to learn what I could of their language and culture.

Keralites, and Indians in general, are immensely friendly. And for all ups and downs i have experienced in my journeys, i am really grateful for that.

Thank you for support and please, convey my greetings to mum. From sometime now, i am trying to persuade my mum to join Steemit. She is incredibly talented fiber artist, among many other things.

Btw, are you familiar with film fandom in South India, including in Kerala?

Yes, I was so grateful for that, knowing that many places hold resentment towards Americans. They showed me true love and care, and even called me an honorary Malayali.

I've shared your articles with my mom, she finds it quite inspiring and is following you now :-) Hope you can persuade yours to come over!

I don't know too much about the film culture, but I know it is very important to Keralites. The priests I stayed with took me to the theatre once while I was there and I quite enjoyed it, though I couldn't understand the jokes!

Film culture, especially cultural significance of film stardom is very, very, very important in Indian South. And in Tamil Nadu even more so than Kerala , i would say. And it is fascinating topic on its own.

Yes, this is very Keralite in spirit, hospitality and care towards foreigners. I am routinely called "Keralite heart" for set of similar reasons you are called honorary Malayali, i guess.

Yes, i really hope my mum will ultimately join Steemit. I am happy your mum found my articles inspiring.

So, i think now you understand better all of this, at least in part.
