The Mountain Slide

I stood at the foot of the mountain,
Staring up towards where God resides,
There in far off heavens,
So far above, on deep high sides.
I tried to climb towards her,
Crying out my Lord,
Your servant needs you,
Please help me, I’m not that tall.

And nothing seemed to happen at all.

I struggled up the shingle,
Broke my skin upon the rocks,
All about me darkness mingled,
My innocence was shocked.
I cried out to my God,
Please Lord help me,
My life seems so hard,
You silence is hurting,
Like razor icy shards.

And nothing seemed to happen at all.

I broke through the cloud base,
Seeing the sun in all its glory,
But of heaven I could see nothing,
Was it really a believable story?
I stood up, a proven man,
And said Lord speak to me,
I wonder if you can?
I was captain of everything I saw,
I was master of my universe,
Could I really ask for more?

And nothing seemed to happen at all.

I descended a proven Atheist,
It was clear to any thinking person,
That God could not exist,
But as I struggled downwards,
A nagging doubt continued to persist.
Then as I neared the bottom,
A quiet voice whispered in my ear,
It was me that was pushing you,
It was me that held you near,
For you do not tell God,
When it it is right to appear,
Just know I am with you,
Now you have conquered all those fears,
So now pick up your cross,
And tell all those far and near,
How the living God loves you,
When he chooses to appear.
