his poetry is simple, short and deep
In drinking thus it is not my design
To riot, or transgress the law divine,
No! to attain unconsciousness of self
Is the sole cause I drink me drunk with wine.
مِی خوردن من نه از برای طرب است
نه از بهر نشاط و ترک دین و ادب است
خواهم که به بیخودی برآرم نفسی
مِی خوردن و مست بودنم زین سبب است

Omar Khayyám, was a Persian polymath, scholar, mathematician, astronomer, philosopher, and poet, widely considered to be one of the most influential thinkers of the Middle Ages. He also wrote numerous treatises on mechanics, geography, mineralogy, astronomy and music.
