Poem: Keep Us Out

We only had a couple
of last minutes together.
You could not hug back.

My fiend believed his cherub
and crowned me blameless.
He even shook my hand.

But it cost me you.

"Why are you doing this?"
You smiled your obvious reasons
into our trembling stare.

You loved the irony of
getting gone from being criminal
by committing an act of innocence.

Sister said, "It is time."

Our lips kissed us to
press pause in eternity's bliss.
Neither of us celebrated.

"I'll see you again."
"Where? When?"
"Back here. Or there. Soon."

"You really think we get there?"
"Ah, babe, you and me together,
the gods do not have enough guts
to keep us out."
