A Jewish Captive “I Believe” Poetry in the Camp

in #poem6 years ago

When I was stationed in Germany in the early mid-80s someone had given me this poem. And it resurfaced in my old notebook. And thought I’d share it with you. But as I’ve checked this poetry is now all over the Internet.

Nonetheless, I still want to convey and share it because this is a poetry that speaks of one’s faith, strength, and hope.

The person was said to be of a Jewish descent and was one of the prisoners of the Nazi concentration camp.

When I was in Germany, I visited and toured a few of their prison camps. One of them was the place called Krakow concentration camp. After seeing this place, I was taken aback by the horrific devices that were used to torture those people, how they were forced to labor, and eventually being killed to death.

But there were some that were spared and some that have managed to escape, I supposed. And thank God to those survivors. And those who have died, I pray tell their souls in eternal rest and peace.

But here’s the profound short verse of the poem:

I believe in the sun

even when it's not shining

I believe in love

even when I don'f feel it

I believe in God

even when he is silent.

I hope you like this short poem and inspires you in some ways. Take care and blessing to you all.
