Zebra stripes of Sunlight
I love waking up before the crack of dawn.
Before the birds start chirping and the early worm is eaten.
I stretch out of my bed, and walk up to the window.
Through this square opening I peep at the world.
It looks hazy, the sky is dark but gentle.
There’s a blue tint in its darkness,
like the deepest end of the ocean.
The street light are bright and reveal houses, dark inside.
Apparently Man is not an early bird.
Watching the dark sky fade to blue is therapeutic,
like holding the hands of your lover while the waves engulf your feet and recede.
The birds start to chirp.
The early worm is pecked at.
A cock crows.
In houses, windows light up.
I hear feet trudging on the street below.
The ignition of a car starts.
The street light go deem as the city brightens .
The sun peeps, behind white clouds, golden rays fall,
and a dew is reflected on a blade of grass.
waking up before the crack of dawn Is like witnessing a miracle.
