GIANT REDWOODS

in #poem7 years ago (edited)

The giant redwood’s cumulative emotion
Rolls down from tallest branches
Onto deaf ears.
If only one would listen…

You could learn from us,
We have so much to teach.
But, again, the only response
Is the click of yet, another camera.

 click 

We stand closer to the heavens.
We have lived through many of your battles.
We could help you see more clearly,
If you would only listen.

We stand here, beacons of the Gods,
And we give thanks for all the years we’ve stood
In this form of heavenly glory.
But we know that death now awaits us.

 click, click 

This grand creation, this form,
We beacons of the Gods
Must soon bow down and prepare for
Our next journey.

 click 

Your form moves from birth to death
So quickly,
You linger not to learn
What can be taught.

 click 

Your thoughts are on today,
Not of tomorrow.
And so you walk through this majesty
Unaware.

Gaining nothing more
Than memories,
And glossy photographs
To remind you and yours of these.

 click 

And so, you go
From birth to death
Concluding once again
There were no answers.

 click 

And when tomorrow comes and “needs” arise,
Temporary, though they may be,
You’ll send your kind
To hack us down.

 click click click 

Yet, even then, in this last precious moment
Not even pleas for life will be received
Nor, more importantly, the last breaths of wisdom
We have tried for so long to convey.

This is a powerful poem. It speaks, to me, about the superficial. We go to museums and snap photos never understanding the meaning. These ancient trees that contain life and therefore some degree of consciousness have "seen" so much. Just the contemplation of what that means could increase our consciousness, yet we just click!

Nice post,

Love seeing all kinds of artists on here.
