Upside Down
the world is upside down today
the ocean’s in the sky
clouds are churning
like a whirlpool
birds are fish
just swimming by
the moon’s a pearl in some lone oyster
the starfish deeply set
in depths of pure
obsidian
performing
pirhouettes,
and i am inside out today
exposed to every eye
all seams and out-turned
pockets full of
dreams and
alibis
afraid to speak above a whisper
lest secret not yet known
should come to light
the while i wear
my heart
outside my bones.
a topsy-turvy thought today
turned everything to lie
left me vulnerable
and set the ocean
in the sky
emotions fled in search of shelter
from what might come to be
with nothing as it was
before this
strange
reality
