Many decorative plants exist today. They have vibrant and unique blooms. The delonix regia is a legume that stands out with its colorful flowers. However, consider its needs before planting.

Delonix regia is also known as the fire tree. It is a decorative plant with an unusual look. It earns this name because its blooms resemble bright flames. The delonix regia is in the legume family. It belongs to the Caesalpiniaceae subfamily and the Delonix genus.

The flame tree lives for many years. It grows to 10-12 m tall in open areas. It can reach 20 m in tropical areas. It grows about 3 m each year. The trunk size shows its age. A bigger trunk means an older tree.

The plant has a wide crown. Its side stems branch a lot. The delonix regia's leaves look like fern leaves. They are a rich green color and have twice-pinnate stipules. The leaves fold at night and almost disappear. The tree's wood is very strong. Young trees have smooth, gray-brown bark. Cracks appear later.

The royal delonix's best feature is its large flowers. They grow at the branch ends and are about 8 cm wide. The petals are mostly scarlet or orange-red. There is often one bigger petal that faces up. It has yellow and white spots. The top petal is the largest. It is shaped like a wide tongue and has varied colors.

After 10 years, the tree grows large pods. These pods can be over half a meter long. They hold large seeds that are 2-2.5 cm long. Young pods are green. They turn dark brown when ripe. Each pod can hold up to 40 seeds.
