Be Careful of Automatically Trusting Whales who Potentially are Sneaking in Plagiarism
EDIT: @dragonslayer109 did address and correct the manner promptly, and he deserves credit for that
Perhaps I was a little bull-headed on this particular case, but I feel the need to act promptly in cases of plagiarism draining funds from us all on Steemit. To me it feels like we are all somewhat sharing our wallets with each other, as the content that gets upvotes impacts each of us. If a post starts earning money quickly, you have to act fast to bring attention to it. But in this case I did not give @dragonslayer109 enough time to do so.
He edited his post, reached out to the community for help, and fixed it as quickly as he could.
Good man! Thank you @dragonslayer109 for being so calm and acting professionally.
The Issue and Recommendations to Prevent it
If you are going to share articles and content from other users under your own name, you should trust them and make sure the content won't jeopardize your reputation. Please take the time to verify that the content is original, or is properly cited before posting it. It is dangerous, even if by accident, to represent someone else's information as your own especially when there is an active group of users working on clamping down on plagiarists.
Hmm....maybe it is an alt account of his that he is trying to build up and just got busted! Or maybe he just made a mistake, one he will likely not repeat anytime soon!
Thank you .. Still new to the system .. Mistake guaranteed ... Most certainly have learnt a lot from this .... Now I know ... Keep it mine . Sorry about inconvenience guys ...
I'll start fresh by posting an " introduce myself "
I am sorting this problem out in the steemit.chat steemitabuse-classics channel
You seem like you are genuine and honestly are trying to do right, just have to be careful with your content is all =) Sorry for being so rough on you
Ill try sort the problem out as soon as I can
Edited my post
It takes guts to fight plagiarism on this. Props.
It's funny how users trying to downvote your posts are actually giving you money by forcing me to follow up and upvote after them =) All because you downvoted some plagiarists.
Just important thing to say, @dragonslayer109 did "almost" make a mistake, but mistakes happen to everyone and he features a lot of unrecognized members. I'm sure he will make sure not to "repeat" the mistake in the future. Even tho I repeat he almost made a mistake. Don't hate on him, he does the community well as best as he can.
Perhaps I pushed this against him a bit too hard, making him an example. But in a very loose sense, Steemit is one big wallet we all share and if people are spending it on plagiarized content, I feel the need to do something about it.
But, @dragonslayer109 did address and correct the manner promptly, and he deserves credit for that
Everyone makes mistakes and he did the right thing by fixing it as quickly as he could.
That's a normal thing, I'm pretty sure that most of us would react in the same way, It's also good that you brought it up, dragon is now much more careful on what he posts so the chances of him posting anything plagiarized in the future just got even lower!
Exactly, but what people don't realize the supply of steem isn't unlimited, so someone could be taking "your piece of the pie" for nothing, compared to your work, etc...
Also a private note: I'm glad that you got involved in the abuse channel, any help is appreciated, especially from persons who know the right tools & ticks how to spot plagiarism and find it's source. :)
