Fighting and Avoiding Plagiarism and Abuse on Steemit, a Recap of Useful Steemit Posts

abuse

Time to bring into your attention something very important once more, namely the topic about plagiarism and abuse on Steemit. The promise of being able to earn rewards for good posts also attracts users that come just to abuse the platform and try to make some quick and easy money. This is something that we should try to avoid at all costs as it sends a bad message and is not good for the whole community on the long run. If you are into Steemit and Steem long term, then you should not turn a blind eye and even if you are not proactively fighting the issues, you should at least not encourage it by giving your votes for posts like that.

Another issue that needs some attention is the often unintentional use of copyrighted images and other content. There are some countries where copyright law is not highly regarded and people are just not used to pay much attention to things going along the lines of "if it is on the Internet, then it is free". That may not always be true and the least you can do is try to cite the source of some information that you use in your posts on Steemit. With photos for illustrative purposes there are many resources available that can ensure that you get high-quality images that are completely free for use. With texts what you should normally do is use quotes and cite the source and not repost whole articles that were not written by you, instead what you should add to the quotes is your own opinion or take on the topic.

I have posted some interesting and useful articles that you might find helpful as you most likely have missed them at the time of publication, so do check them out if you really care what happens with Steemit in the future...

Policing Steemit, Should You Do It and How to Do It

I'm sure that this is a bit of controversial topic with all the no censoring thing going on Steemit, however that does not mean we should be fine with Plagiarism on Steemit. This is simply because it is really NOT OK to steal somebody else's work, present it as yours and get money for that stealing and lying. This is not the community that we all should want Steemit to become, unfortunately there are quite a lot of people already that are in for the quick buck and they are copying another's work being photos, texts, videos and are earning rewards for that. We need to stop that trend before it has grown too much to be able to be stopped and not encourage people like that in any way.

Suspicions for Plagiarism on Steemit, Do a Quick Check Yourself

So you've found a great new post that you want to vote for and support the author, but then there is something bothering you about it... is it the clickbaity title, the too professional writing style or the great looking photos. Could that be a plagiarism in disguise from a user trying to cheat you and everyone else on Steemit and just get away with the rewards he/she gets for a content that was actually created by somebody else...

How to Find and Properly Use High Quality Photos for Your Posts on Steemit

Steemit encourages the use of original content and that goes not only for the texts you write, but also for the images and photos you are using in your posts. Sometimes you may need an image to illustrate what you are talking about, but you may actually not have something that you shot yourself to use. In such cases people often go to image searches and get the first result they get and seems Ok, but not always check if they are allowed to use the image or not (posting on Steemit can count as commercial usage)...

You're right. Simply linking to the place where you nicked the image doesn't admonish you from plagiarism.

If you don't even cite or link to the original source of content that is not free to use it is even worse, because this means you are trying to pass the contents as something that you have created yourself...

True, it's good there are people watching out for this.
