Achievement 3: Content etiquette by @bright15
Hello my amiable steemians, it's good to write again after I completed my achievement 2. This achievement 3 talks about on content etiquette and plagiarism. I hope you'll find my work very informative and educating.
PLAGIARISM
Plagiarism can be termed as an act of taking someone's work, suggestion or facts and claiming its yours. Plagiarism has been recorded in many countries like Japan, China, Finland, Iran, Turkey and so on while Italy is the highest so far.
In our educational system today, plagiarism has eaten deep into the lives of many students because they have refused to read and are allows waiting for their friends to do their assignment so they can copy so easily without procrastination.
KINDS/TYPES OF PLAGIARISM
- SELF PLAGIARISM :
This kind of plagiarism takes place when you copy your own
writing whether knowingly or unknowingly. Many humans may think self plagiarism is not toxic because you are not copying from somebody just yourself but it is so harmful just the way others are. It is also called auto plagiarism
- COMPLETE PLAGIARISM :
This kind of plagiarism occurs when one tries to entirely submit someone else's work and presents it to be his own without him contributing any issue to the work. For instance, when an author copies the work of another author just to make money not knowing that the information he/she is trying to give out is meaningless because he is already feeding the society with an ordinary existing information which is not ethical.
- ACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM :
In this one, an author copies someone else's work without knowing that he/she has done so. Furthermore, if it happens by mistake or not just bear it in my that plagiarism has taken place and will be taken into consideration if one is found guilty.
- PARAPHRASING PLAGIARISM :
Paraphrasing means to reconstruct a text or speech in your words without changing its meaning.
In this type of plagiarism, the copied work is not missed in with new ideas but slight changes will be made . It is the most common type of plagiarism.
- SOURCE BASED PLAGIARISM :
Source simply means where something is gotten from or how something can be acquired. In other words, this kind of plagiarism occurs when a writer has two sources of ideas or facts but left with only one reference.
- DIRECT PLAGIARISM :
This type of plagiarism occurs when a researcher steals the work of various authors in verbatim i.e word for word and claims to be the own of it. It is also called copy paste plagiarism.
OUTLINES ON HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM IN STEEMIT
Firstly, Steemit is a platform that allows you to share your ideas globally and gets rewarded for your participation in the form of cryptocurrencies.
The outlines includes;
➡Avoid copying and pasting one's direct quotes into your own work.
➡Not carefully and properly citing sources used to form an article. Text citations and a references section at the end of your article needs to be considered.
➡Frequently make use of quotation marks (" ") to indicate that where such specific word or sentence was gotten from and that its not yours.
➡In all, it is very vital you make use of your own ideas.
SUMMARY
Plagiarism should be avoided in the country at large because it is very toxic especially to those in the educational sector if him/she wants to be a leader of tomorrow.
Please we should endeavor to follow the the guidelines listed above in case we're using borrowed idea in order not to be penalised.
Have it in mind that it's very easy and not difficult to carryout.
I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will do my best to embrace them.
