Major League Umpire John Tumpane saves woman's life
John Tumpane was going for a jog in Pittsburgh, PA this afternoon when he saw a extremely distressed woman attempting to jump from the Clemente bridge. He was preparing to call balls and strikes for the Pirates and Marlins at PNC Park, but this call was his best by far. He saw the woman, as he described "In her early thirties" swing her leg over the railing and move within inches of the edge of the bridge. He approached her and asked what she was up to. He recounted that she "wanted to see the view from that side of the railing" As he attempted to persuade back to safety, she leaped but Tumpane, acting quickly, held onto her arm. Others nearby rushed to help pull the woman back onto the bridge. They restrained her until emergency service arrived. Thanks to John's decisive action a young lady has a second lease on life.
