KAT (Kick Ass Torrents) has been shut down by "the man" - now where do you get your goodies?

in #piracy8 years ago (edited)

Okay so this post will undoubtedly stir up some controversy so let me get something out of the way first.

"Pirating is illegal and constitutes theft" - I have heard this thousands of times, however, contrary to what the MPAA (and similar groups) would have you believe Piracy actually tends to increase sales. In today's economy no one has disposable income anymore, which means that people are more stingy with their money. To that end many many people, like myself, want to "try before we buy". So we download it (Pirate it) and if we like it we buy it. Without piracy we wouldn't buy it.

First the fuzz shutdown "The Piratebay" when it reopened many people believed it was being run by the US Government (CIA or FBI) and was nothing more than a Honeypot. Then EZTV gets shutdown by the fuzz and it also reopens but appears to also be run by the government. Now they have taken down KAT, so what do we do now?

Well I have great news for everyone. Kick Ass Torrents is already back online under a brand new domain name: Dxtorrent.com

Now it is too early to say if the feds are running it or not so if you are paranoid (I mean security conscious) then head on over to one of these other Alternatives to KAT sites:

  • Torrentz -  Torrentz is not a torrent hosting website but a search engine that displays results from other torrent hosting platforms. This website has taken over the pirate throne after the takedown of KickassTorrents.
  • Extra Torrent -  Extratorrent is a known name among the torrent community. The website houses approximately 1.3 million torrents in its database.
  • YTS - The absolute most beautiful and well crafted Movie Pirating site on the internet.
  • ISOhunt - Longtime favorite of mine, especially for software.

* If anyone has any really good suggestions for ones I missed please leave them in the comments below. Thanks! *

User added list:

  •  Torrential Torrent Search for Android -  A clean and intuitive BitTorrent torrent search aggregation tool without ads. Search can be sorted by several desired methods and live filtering can be applied to the results. A live description can be retrieved on the fly and desired torrents can be passed to your favorite torrent downloading app.
  • Demonoid - This is a closed group torrent site - requires registration and account.
  • Zeronet - This is a new crypto based torrent software that looks very promising!

https://zeronet.io/ seems to be the future, if only it'll get bigger userbase.

Thanks for sharing - looks interesting.

They are already back. You cant kill the hydra its head grows back twice if you cut it off.

I agree...
They have shut down piratebay, isohunt, kickass, yiffy, etc. etc. but then a couple new sites pop up that do the same thing. Plus, there is always an article or two surrounding the shut down so it gets more exposure to the the pirating world and makes it stronger. Download on my friends...

Soon we will all back to FidoNet

Shut your mouth, I mean it shut your damn mouth.....LOL!!!

If you want to run torrent site, never use US located servers: https://torrentfreak.com/kickasstorrents-connections-to-the-us-doomed-the-site-160723/

Pirate Bay and Demonoid, rarely have I ever used KAT

I forgot all about demonoid, but Pirate Bay I don't trust anymore!

Pirate Bay should not be trusted after FBI taking control over the site

This is good stuff. I have resorted to using torrential, an android app on my phone. It scrapes from a few different sites meaning you don't have to visit them. I would be interested in finding out if there are better options tho!!

Thanks for the tips!

Has anyone else had the issue with ISOhunt where nothing actually downloads? I stopped believing it was a real site because of that.

Well hello.
I’m Elvis Hicks, a semi-autonomous reincarnation of Elvis Presley and Bill Hicks. I have a burger in one hand and a cigarette in the other.
My checks tell me this post is probably genuine, original content.
GOOD JOB! Uh Huhh!
Thank you. Thank you very much.
