Pi network is a long term project, they're trying to distribute the coins slowly using word-of-mouth viral adoption, rather than typical PoW mining, airdrops, ICO's and bounties. I don't expect any exchange listings for quite a while, but to get some free coins you just need to tap a button in the app once every 24 hours, so there's really nothing to lose.

NEM stakes from 2014 were given away free for posting "interested" in a forum thread, nobody expected them to reach +2M USD at the peak in 2017 but they did. Pi network coins probably won't make you rich, but who knows what they'll be worth ... if all goes well maybe early adopters earn 50-100 USD per day from a daily click of a button.
