Carefree Days (CONTEST: A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words - 12/31/2021)
The time for planning was over. It was time for action. The schematics had been drawn up, all that was left to do, was build it. The boys gathered their trusty tools and scavenged all the materials needed for the project from local junk yards and from theirs fathers left overs, from his odd jobs around the house.
In the back yard they set about their labours, hammering a nail here, sawing a piece of wood there. The effort was immense and the pay-off tedious. Slowly but surely the project began to take shape, a week into the task and they had almost achieved what they had set out to do. Build a rocket ship. A rocket ship that would take them to the moon and beyond. They would travel amongst the stars and meet alien races, just like their heroes from the Star Trek tv show.
Their mother watched from the kitchen window with awe, as her two boys imaginations soared to wherever their dreams could carry them. She watched them fondly and reminiscently, remembering back to the times when she and her younger siblings would go on grand adventures, to worlds that ceased to exist with the on set adulthood. As much as she loved her boys and the life she had made, she also yearned for those carefree days.
