"To the Rising Sun" Op. 4 No. 1 | Trygve Torjussen

in #piano5 years ago

This piece comes from the RCM Grade 8 Syllabus 2015 Edition. My physical copy is the Alfred Edition, the digital in the video comes from Michael Kravchuk's website. The back page of my edition reads,

"A fine performance requires an expressive cantabile left-hand melody that mus sing above the right-hand accompaniment (measures 3-18 and 34 to the end). Aim for a resonant sonority at the climax, measures 27-29, and be sure it is not a percussive sound. A tender mood is requested at the beginning; it is emphasized again at measure 34 and should be maintained to the end. The left-hand c-flat in measure 43 should resolve to the grace note B-flat in measure 44. The composer indicated una corda for measures 1 and 2, to be released when the melody enters at measure 3, as well as for measures 42 to the end. He also requests the melody be held and sustained for its full value (measures 11 forward.)."

I banged this piece out in a couple hours following my H.R. 6 debacle; managed most of the editorial points, I should hope.
