To have physical skills
I thought people would ask me if I had the physical ability to do the job. What I couldn't guess was the question I heard more than anything else: You're not scared?
It was strange and insulting to be suspected of my courage. I've never heard of my male coworkers facing such a question. It seems that fear is a feeling expected from women.
This fear conditioning begins at an early age. Many studies show that physical activities such as sports, hiking, and outdoor games depend on girls' self-confidence. Girls, however, are constantly being warned to avoid risky activities.
