Battle of the titans - PHP frameworks

David and Goliath

All of us have ever seen those posts in those Facebook groups, Stack overflow groups, Reddit whatever a repititive question - what is the best framework? I'll be honest with you - this question drives me crazy. Really crazy. it is the same if you ask me : "what is the best pizza - with pepperoni or beacon?" - you simply cannot answer this as it depends on your taste. And if I ask Alone (One of my best friends) she would say: "I want an Rib eye steak, no pizza please!".

As each of the frameworks are built up for specific needs, these are the most popular ones:

Laravel

Laravel is an open source, free PHP framework from Taylor Otwell based around the model-view-controller (MVC) architectural concept. The framework was first released in beta form in June of 2011, and has since been continuously developed and expanded from its initial versions.

Symphony

Symfony as a PHP framework is well suited for large-scale or complex enterprise level projects. It is a quite stable framework. Symfony 3.1 (the current version) helps developers create scalable websites that are flexible to changing business requirements. Symfony can work with some of the largest open source platforms such as PHPBB, Piwik, and Drupal.

Codeigniter

CodeIgniter was the original PHP framework. Developed in 2006, it’s been here forever. It is a framework specially built for PHP developers. The framework provides a simple toolkit to create fully featured web applications. Codeigniter is a documented framework that helps in simplifying the process of development.

Slim

This one is my favorite - it's suitable for building APIs as well as great backend applications with easy. It is suited with a fast HTTP router, PSR-7 Support, and dependency injection support that can be used to “quickly write simple yet powerful web applications and APIs.”

Q: Which one of these giants do you prefer to work with and why?
