Speckled Pigeon - Birds of South Africa
Also known as Rock Pigeons these birds are very common in South Africa. Generally these pigeons prefer open land but in recent years they have become more common in the residential areas as well.
These Speckled or Rock Pigeons can reach a length of up to 40 cm. They feed mainly on seeds and grains. They make their nests on cliffs, on buildings or in trees.
Beautiful. How I wish we could have birds sitting quietly to be photographed. Over here, they fly at the sight of any human. An instinct borne out of the need for survival. Nobody wants to be killed or eaten.
sure I cant blame them, hahaha. I took this photo at a bird park so these birds where not scared of humans, they know they wont be eaten (not by a human anyway) @abbiephoto
We have them a lot in my country, they are all over the place even though I am not sure if it is the exact same species, we just call them pigeons or flying rats :)
@zen-art, there are a large variety of pigeons around. I like pigeons but they can become a nuisance especially in the cities because they make a lot of mess.
They also like Rock music (just kidding, no idea if they do or not haha)! Good snap there :)
haha, hence the name! Thanks for the compliment @nickeyhavey
Under those feathers lies tattoos of its favourite rock band Haha
