Moments
This morning before sunrise, I stood quietly, breathing deeply, and listening to three Mockingbirds exchanging their greeting songs, and I made a conscious effort to capture the passing of moments on my timeline
The morning air was moist and held a rich aroma of freshly-cut grass that was so pungent it was almost tangible. I filled my mind with thoughts of grass, morning fog, and complex combinations of birdsong. The smell of the clean, clear air was entertainment enough to hold me in place.
Subtle changes in the sky glow foretold the arrival of the sun at the horizon.
It was exquisite, and I did not have to travel to other parts of the Earth to find contentment.
The passing minutes gave me a rush of memory and a near tactile grasp on the four minutes that had passed. That was 240 moments, indelibly engraved on my timeline.
When I need those moments, I can always recall them with the help of my notes, photo, and remembering the unique place on my life's timeline.

Such beautiful prose!
Stopping and being present in the moment is a powerful exercise, especially when coupled with opening ones senses to to the world around.
No better place or time for this than in the country when the birds are waking up!
Thank you! Spoken as someone who does that, too.
It is a shame we can't use our senses to their fullest more often than we do.
morning is as morning does. one cannot help but overhear the birds sing songing their way around your backyard. surely it is time for all of us to hear that every day if we can. the smell of earth dampened by the dew is like a dab of ambrosia to our senses
Agreed. That experience is part of our lives that goes unnoticed by most people. One of the best smells in nature is damp earth.
This is simply entrancing and the way you capture a blissful lifetime suspended in a moment is pure poetry :)
That photo made me take a deep breath and think of the early mornings on my grandmothers smallholding during lucerne season, the little flowers and the smell of rich fresh soil in the air. Turtle doves singing in the nearby orange treas told a tail of a sunrise soon to peak through the leaves of the trees.
Enjoyed that memory, thank you
