Travel with Vinny#3: world war 2 crashed plane in the woods
Hey steem! today I am going to talk about that time where I hiked to a crashed plane site.
This is Canso 1107 a Canadian army bomber plane that crashed on February 12, 1945, during world war 2.
12 soldiers were on board along with 100KG depth charge intended to neutralize a Japanese submarine and 3400L of fuel, surprisingly and against all ODDs, all the crew members survived with minor injuries.
They crashed because of mechanical problems that were supposed to just have been fixed. In fact they were flying away from the fixing facilities when the crash occurred.
The plane is located in Tofino on Vancouver Island and is relatively difficult to find if you are planning to stay clean. The hike is filled with mud and water with ropes put on by other hikers to help you keep your balance on small trunks going over puddles of water.
Even if nobody died in the accident, it still leaves you with a spooky feeling to see the rest of what was suppose to go and deliver explosives that would have done a lot more damage.
All in all, it was a pretty cool and wet hike that I would advise anyone close to Tofino to do. The final reward is definitely worth the wet feet!
Here is a little bonus of a bird that was following us along the trail.
Excellent write!
