Roadtrip to Neversea

in #photography6 years ago

We took the long road to the sea. The old one, that goes and cuts all of the agricultural field of the South East of the country. We were hearing on the radio all day that the area is flooded after some flash thunder storms in the morning. Those came after another 2-3 days of continous rains so all that part of Romania was soaking wet.

Apart from the the fact that the highway should've been very crowded that day, the ring road of Bucharest must have been crazy. We decided we also have to make some photos and document this one so we went on taking this longer and slower road, that somehow still keeps a perfume of the old times.

My husband was starving. So before we reached Slobozia (it sounds worse than it is in Romanian language) we stopped for chips and bio tomatoes. The chips were not bio, only the tomatoes ok? On this road you can find all sorts of people in the village selling their extra vegetables in order to round up the sums they need to go on from one month to another. So we stopped for some tomatoes.

After all this, the last picture I posted through Steepshot happened. One was eating on one of the tomatoes, the other was driving, while me and @thegreywidow were just laughing our asses off.

Eventhough @vonaurolacu was driving like an old man and we probably took twice the time a decent vehicle would take on the same road, we eventually reached Slobozia. A small town, in the middle of the Romanian fields. Nothing special around here with the exception of the fact that half of the city was under waters a few hours earlier, while the other half was still like that. The biggest supermarket's parking lot was flooded and they were draining it with the help of some more than 40 years old truck. At some point I thought I would see shoppers coming to do the groceries in canoes.

All the way to Constanța we were accompanied by UNTOLD Radio which the organisers of the two festivals (UNTOLD and NEVERSEA) provide inside their applications. They play very good music, the kind that gets you inside the groove of what's about to happen. Although the 3G signal is not all over that road, we managed to get a good portion of those sounds and feels just enough to get us in the mood.

Finally, when close to Constanța, WE REALLY HAD TO PEE. @vonaurolacu has this idiotic habbit: he doesn't want to stop (he makes some exceptions for photos now). But close to the final destination, we told him it's either a quick stop in the middle of fucking nowhere, and we will take our chances, or we will do it in his car. He chose the first solution and we stopped at an old rest stop, an abandoned lorry halt here, apart from peeing we met Nea Bădică.

Guardian of the place in order to keep it standing, I suppose, because there isn't anything left to guard. He has 2 loyal dogs, both crippled. Somehow they are like their master is.
After exchanging the few, normal phrases, Nea Bădiță asked us for nothing else when we left, than the bare information about what time the World Cup Game of the evening was going to start. He thanked us kindly for the info we picked up from Google and we parted not understanding what the hell is that information going to serve him for. He had no TV in that God forgotten place.

When we got closer to the army base of Mihail Kogălniceanu (where the US Army is stationed), the guys thought it would be fun to raise one of the drones. We thought we shouldn't so we decided to use the dawn that was coming upon us to take some other agricultural shots close to the destination.

There's this unfair rule at the Festival, that no one is allowed with cameras unless they are press and preregistered anyway. So sorry, nothing else than #smartphonephotography from down there. It would be a pain in the ass to carry the camera around anyway.

Especially today when Armin will be mixing until sunrise.

Romania is very interesting country to drive through. I just came back and almost the whole time when sitting on passengers' seat I was holding camera in my hand ready to shoot. I've heard about the floods - is the large area affected?
