Neelkanth - The Indian Roller.

Here is a picture of an Indian Roller from the archives.

A fairly common bird seen across the country, you can find this bird in forests, near lakes, on the electricity lines around farms etc. It gets its name from the blue of its wings and around the head. Although literally 'Neelkanth' (the local indian name for the bird) means blue throat, this bird actually lacks a blue throat. Speaking of bluethroat, here's a bird who actually has a bluethroat ! surprisingly its named Bluethroat.

Coming back to indian roller, It is One of the most beautiful birds to see when its flying as the blue on its wings sparkles ! And although it is fairly common, it is always a joy to watch.
