A night ride through Hamburg, Germany

No matter how blurry this shot turned out thanks to my smartphone being the only camera I had on hand it might very well be one of my favourite shots of the month.

I was on my way back home from a friend, close enough to take my bicycle even though the freezing cold and thick fog made it more of an endeavour than a joy ride.

I've said it again and will probably say it again: Hamburg is a city that is most beautiful in the twilight, rain and stormy nights. On a hot summer day it's a pretty nice city to live in, but that's only the surface layer. If it wasn't for that **** book I'd call it the city of many shades of grey, there is so much to see that is dirty, gritty and disgusting, only in a beautiful way.

In this particular moment an eerie silence lay over the whole area, probably one of the busiest streets during the day but even though it wasn't even midnight not a single car was in sight. The floodlight that came from a crane had absolutely no purpose without a single person to be seen, but it was amazing how calm it was. I stopped there for a good five minutes, leaned against my bicycle and just took in the scenery, smelled the silence and listened to the darkness.
