Forest Gems (original photograph)

One of my favorite things to photograph is urban decay. It's doesn't have to be a insane asylum to be interesting, but that certainly doesn't hurt. I suppose this image isn't techncially 'uban decay', I'm open to suggestion if you can help me out on what sub-category this could be considered as...

This is an out-building on Avery Island, LA that has become covered in lichens and perhaps fine moss. The mottled light reaching the structure allowed for the softness of the colors to come through. I further softened the focus on this image to reduce any harsh visuals in an effort to keep the viewers eye calm.

This would likely make for an interesting digital painting as well.

To me shooting the subjects that are already in magazines or famous places is rather pointless (unless you can do it better, of course). Where do you go when looking for obscure, under-photographed subjects?

Unbelievable. You have very astounding photos. Definitely following you. I'm currently learning photography, and I truly believe you can inspire with your fascinating ideas.

Appreciate you taking the time to post a nice comment. The key is to continually remain curious and push the limits of what you think is possible. I just disassembled two old point and shoot cameras today to get their lenses out for 'lensbong' experiments with a mobile phone. Turns out my mobile phone cam is only 5mp, but it still gives me an idea of what these strap-on lenses do. So, I'm glad you notice that I do try to drop little nuggets of useful information - ie: shooting in neutral color space (it's nothing ground breaking, but many don't do it b/c the results on the back of the camera aren't poppin', but you have the most latitude for editing afterwards. This is also a common practice among those shooting video.

In any case the information you provide, including gorgeous photos, is valuable for all of us. Thanks for your time.

Omg that teal paint speaks to my soul haha. That's my favorite color!

Yes, the teal door contrasted with the bright green of the fronds really frames the colours and textures of this old building. Such a gorgeous shot @timelapse!

Beautiful picture. Love the post processing that is helping to create the mood and a kind of wet tropical forest feel to the photo.

Thank you - it's always good to get feedback especially on images that appear to be a bit over the top in terms of color. This one is really like this - I believe I darkened the scene slightly, though it was mostly in shadow, cropped out the area above as some sky peaks through the trees and was distracting. Believe it or not, this was taken around December 28 in Louisiana... not exactly spring time!

I like the color. Not something I would do to my photos, may be a little over the top as you said, but it definitely has a style and the colors are working well together.

I most often shoot in a Neutral color profile and this helps keep me from looking at the back of the camera when out shooting. It also allows for the richest color to be brought up in post.

Really nice colors and textures, love it.
