One Photo Every Day: Dacia 1310 (34/365).

in #photography7 years ago

With 58 horsepower and a chassis that will make you think that you will roll over and die once you turn any corner, the Dacia 1310, became today the ultimate granny's car or the best vehicle to transport hundreds of cabbages, melons or of course...packs of contraband cigarettes.
Back during the communist era, this car used to be quite expensive, as much as a three room apartment, and people would have to wait 2 years to get it since they placed the order. Mostly goverment officials would use this car, with a black paint job.
The Dacia 1310 first rolled on the production line in 1969, and surprisingly, the last car made of this kind, was in 2004.
The name stands for its engine size, featuring a 1.3 litre gas or diesel powered engine.
This car was based on the platform of the Renault 12, Dacia and Renault being affiliated for ages.
This car is renouned for its low fuel consumption, reliability and cheap maintanance. You can still see many of them going on the streets with absolutely no problem, with the exception of the body being slowly devoured by rust.
