Fishy photography
Yesterday we took @smallsteps to a little aquarium in the city and since it is a bit of a photography weekend, I thought I would break up the downvoting posts with some pictures along the way. This was my first trip to this aquarium and I have to say, I wasn't overly impressed but then, I was living on the Great Barrier Reef for years, so it really isn't a very fair comparison. Although, for the price of entry we could almost have bought flights to Australia.
What I like about aquatic life is just how weird it is. All of nature is pretty weird really and a testament to how evolution drives all kinds of results based on the environment. For every action, there is a reaction, each attack, an attempt to defend. There is no way a human would have this kind of imagination to be able to forward plan for situations and no way we would be able to survive if we had to do it all for ourselves as individuals.
I have never been much of a snake person but I much prefer them to spiders. Spiders freak me out a bit which is one of the massive pros of living in Finland, no majorly scary arachnids. I can't say the same about living in the tropics of Australia where pretty much everything that lives has the potential to kill you in minutes. The only animal that is really dangerous in Finland are moose, and that is if you hit them with your car.
As far as the photography goes, these are taken with two lenses, a 12-40 2.8 and a 20mm prime 1.7. I would need more time to experiment to get some better shots but since I was carrying a baby bag and a child a lot of the time, it wasn't so easy to spend a moment with settings.
@smallsteps was both excited by some of the fish and animals and a little scared because of some of their looks but afterward and today she has been talking a lot about them and especially the tortoises and a puffer fish that looked like it was always smiling.

Thanks and she did enjoy it although, I feel we could have taken her to see the goldfish tank at the Chinese restaurant and she would have been as happy :)
and you would've gotten yummy food in the process :D
And it would have been half the price :D
That must have been a great experience. Great to see your better half involved as well after finalizing her studies! Great times!

Yep, she enjoyed it a lot which was nice. She got a little worried at times by the looks of a few fish :)
Still some really cool pics mate.. Pricey admission fee eh.. Thanks for offering something not flag related, yes I still do and will always call them flags.. Flagwars just has a nice ring to it, and it brings back memories of my tumultuous entry into our little experimental ecosystem...
I was discussing the lack of deadly critters where I live in Malaysia today.. Nothing can touch Australia though, death is at every turn 😂
I call them flags too but catch myself and 'rebrand' it. Australia only has 24 million people for a reason :D

I'm not into the re-branding lol, I prefer the more curt nomenclature.. It's a more offensive verb, "go flag yourself" vs "go downvote yourself please good sir" 🖖

It is crazy that a family outing costs so much. i also get shocked when I see the entrance fee to some of these places. When we lived in England a day out for the family in London would set you back more than 100 Pounds.
Yep, it was 40€ and we were there less than an hour. we went for lunch after at a cafe and it was another 25 and we carry all food for our daughter, and I didn't take a meal, just a coffee and a muffin. life.
Kind of makes you not to want to go back. The train used to cost us around 60 Pounds for a return ticket and was hassle free really.Taking a car would have been cheaper, but not by much. Nothing is cheap today and you need money to do most things.
The funny thing was that our daughter wanted to take the bus because it was "easier". She actually has no idea, but likes buses. It is only about 5 kms away but the parking cost 15€... we should listen to her.
Luckily we in Lithuania also don't have too many poisonous animals.
