Fake or not ? The monstermushrooms

While pictures like this look like the photograph knows how to do his job, I do remember me collecting mushrooms 1 year after tschernobyl.

Really every single mushroom was a lot bigger then its used to be. I don't eat them myself anyways, but I liked to collect them for my family and friends.

This year I will definitly never forget. I have to guess, but I believe the biggest ones was between 30 and 50 cm.

It isn't - while we had no clue that day why the shrooms are so mega, I saw some interesting docu not too long ago.

We know that radioactivity is not good for us. The opposite case is it for some mushrooms.
The reason is the element melanin. Scientists made some tests and the result showed, shrooms with melanin not only survive radioactivity, but they even make use of and grow faster, stronger and bigger.

So this actually is the reason for the big mushrooms.
Btw. lucky that almost all shrooms that year was completly full with worms.

Bad for the worms, but good for my family !
