Mushrooms in Fungi Friday 🍄
...
Friday, a day for nature walks .... and for mushrooms ..... few people notice them and we are not even aware of how surrounded we are. So I found some interesting things about mushrooms ...
I dedicate this post to the fun challenge by @ewkaw😊🍄
Fungi recycle plants after their death and turn them into fertile land. If it weren't for the fungus, planet Earth would be inundated with tens of meters of plant (and animal) debris and life on earth would not be possible.
The oldest mushroom in the world was found in amber and is about 90 million years old - it's a kind of Cordyceps mushroom.
Various mushrooms can be made with beautiful colors for fabrics....
Mushroom spores (and the cell wall in fungi) are made up of chitin - the hardest naturally-created substance on Earth. Some scientists believe that fungal spores are capable of traveling through space; others even believe that mushrooms have reached Earth from Cosmos! (And some believe that people who claim this are themselves from another planet! 😉)
Under appropriate conditions, the spores of some fungi can be dormant for centuries and be fertile again after so long.
Mushrooms are reusable, not just as food and medicine. Some fungi are used for bioremediation, to absorb and process hazardous and toxic substances such as oils, pesticides and industrial wastes, where such substances pose a major environmental hazard. Mushrooms can be used as a food source by various other types of microorganisms - some bacteria such as Echerichia coli.
Many fungi grow in sunlight, following the sun the same as plants. Unlike plants, scientists have not yet discovered how mushrooms use sunlight....
Thank you for walking with me through the mushroom field ..
Thanks for visiting my blog.😊
I wish you a nice day!☀️🍄
