Dresden, ressurected from the ashes of WWII
Dresden is located in eastern Germany, not too far south of Berlin. Bombed to dust in WWII, the inner city has mostly been restored to its original pre-war appearance. A while ago I decided to visit the city to take a look.
Walking along the river Elbe towards the city center. The left building is the famous Dresden Frauenkirche.
The Frauenkirche is actually a replica of the original church. The 'real' building got destroyed in february 1945 along with most of Dresden during a massive bombing.
Details of the Frauenkirche
Piece of the 'real' Frauenkirche preserved in the city center
The famous building has an observation platform and one can look tens of kilometers in all directions from there on clear days
The river Elbe somewhat zoomed in
Looking in southern direction from the observation platform. The mountains in the distance are located close to the border with the Czech Republic.
Walking back to the hotel, while the evening sun casts a warm light on Dresden.
Pretty nice sunset, albeit a bit cloudy
Amazing ... this is one of the places i would love to travel to.
It is an often overlooked destination due to its close proximity to Berlin. On the bright side, Dresden can be reached from Berlin within 2 hours by car or train ... !
Wow I wasn't even aware of that .. I used to work w a doctor who is from Germany and spoke about Dresden. It's great to know that it can be reached by car/train.
