RE: Fire in an apartment building in London
This is very horrific. I lived in an high-riser building exactly like this when i was studying in Glasgow, UK and i can just imagine how terrible it is. Knowing how populated the building was and how difficult it is to get up to the 16th floor and down, i know that the people leaving up from the 10th floor, would'nt really have much chance of escape because the staircase is just one and it is very narrow. Unfortunately, the fire extinguishing systems are not in operation in most of these buildings. Normally, Gypsum used to clad the inner walls of the building aught to be fire retardant, so it is a bit of a shocker to see this fire spread so fast. If the fire was actually as a result of someones fridge exploding, if there was a fire extinguisher in his apartment, he would have prevented this severe loss of lives and properties by trying to put out the fire and call for help. Probably due to lack of information and training, he rather ran out and ended up causing this huge loss of lives. My heart goes out to all who have lost a loved one in this terrible incident.
