LOMO: DianaMini Series Episode #1
Meet Diana
So last year my husband, got me a Diana Mini 35 mm camera and a 4-pack of color negative film. We had a Nikon L120 a few years go (which was stolen, but that's a story for another episode), so I've never had any experience with an actual film camera that wasn't disposable. Well I read up and there are so many cool things you can do with this little thing. I decided to do a little experimenting and see what happens.
What is LOMO?
Lomo is short for Lomography, which is a company and aesthetic dedicated to the analog camera movement. These cameras are completely film based and most don't even use batteries, except for the instant ones. What makes lomo so great is there are so many types of film and different ways to process film to make your shots have different effects. Even without the cool effects or special films, the photos come out looking so unique. There is something about them that is so vivid and muted at the same time. It's like you're capturing a world that exists only on film.
Episode #1: First Roll
Here are some good and not so good shots from my first roll of experiments...
This was the first photo I took. As you can tell, not so good. I wasn't steady and I don't even think I considered how the focusing distance worked. I was too excited and started snapping away!
This is a shot of one of our book shelves. Still haven't steadied my self. I just move so fast...
I think this is a good one. I think this is when I noticed the focusing had different distances!
This is another good one I think. It's a shot of a lazy Saturday afternoon, listening to records and little experiments...
This one is a not so good one. It came out fuzzy. I'm not sure what went wrong with this shot. I think I didn't set the exposure back to inside light and maybe had the zoom on the 0.6m setting.
