Kokoweef Peak in the Mescal Range on the Mojave Desert

in #photography7 years ago

Kokoweef Peak (on the right) rises above the Mescal Range of the Ivanpah Mountains in the Mojave Desert of southeastern California. In this image I lensed in the middle of winter, the distant New York and Castle Mountains on the horizon are covered in snow.

Kokoweef Peak sits atop a very interesting mountain under which there has been a very bizarre search for gold for the past 100 years or so. Supposedly the local First Nations Mojave Tribes discovered the mine and then the story escalates from there. Here is an interesting article on it. And they even have a weird website about the mine

This image is from my ongoing project in which I am trying to raise awareness of the 47% of the USA and 90% of Canada that remain unpopulated wilderness.

Where Eagles Fly - The American Wilderness Expedition is my personal mission to introduce people to these amazing locations that surround us.
