168 year old St John Anglican church in Camden NSW Australia, built in 1849.

in #photography7 years ago

St John Anglican church in Camden NSW Australia. This is one of the oldest churches in Australia and it's construction began in 1840 and was completed in 1849 and is over 168 years old. Camden is a semi rural town on the outskirts of Sydney and was one of the most important areas in the early years of colonization of Australia. Camden is a clean pretty little town and is one of the oldest in Australia, it has a good mix of shops, cafes and specialty stores. It has quite a lot of good quality restaurants for such a small town with a large variety of cuisines to choose from.

Notice the two Australian Eucalyptus trees on the left side and the pine trees in front of the church in the old photo . The next photo is from the same direction and the trees are all grown up now.

That area was beautiful at the time of the B/W pic.

It still has a few little pockets like in the old photo lucky, cheers.

Nice photos. I like the comparison between the original and the new. It goes to show how old some of the everyday trees you see around the place actually are!!

That's true my friend and these trees don't even live a fraction of the time some species do.

it sounds very interesting and awesome. hopefully stay all the time

Thank you for the visit and I'm glad you found it interesting, Cheers.

I'm glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the visit, cheers.

1849? In my town, that would make it one of the newest churches. Some friends of mine live in a house built 1650... :)
The oldest stuff here is from 850 - admittedly, its only some foundation walls of a monastry.

Yeah I know what what your saying my friend, but Australia had only been discovered by the British 50 years before this church was being built. Thanks for the visit @beatminister, cheers.

Nice post SB. We love our history here at Community News. And you know something - they just don't build Churches like this any more. They looks like houses these days.

'Bring back the grandeur of old' we say.
