Where to begin...

I joined the Steem community a few months ago after it was mentioned in a blockchain security seminar I was attending. Since then, things have become pretty difficult both personally and professionally. Image creation has been sidelined as I am working more hours in front of the day-job computer, family issues have come and gone and come again, and of course the massive elephant in everyone's everything - Covid-19.

As I have had a little time to spend on the site the last few days, I have been impressed with not just the quality of the photography, but also the quality of the posts. Most people, especially some of the most interesting creators, take time to express the 1000 words that can really bring a work of art to life. At least for me, I enjoy an understanding of the creators process and thinking. The additional "interaction" with the author, especially if that work of art is particularly engaging, has often inspired my own work.

I hope to engage more within the community as time goes on, although I suspect I will be quite slow to really get started again.

Here is a small sample of a body of street photography that I have been working on. I am initially calling it, "Drive-Thru Shooting", as I create these images along my 45 minute commute home from the day job.

These images are about capturing a moment of time that I have no other interaction with as I drive through the social diversity that is Miami-Dade county. Through the process of shooting and editing this work, I have come to find a fine line with shooting street photography between engaging social issues like homelessness, gentrification, drug abuse and mental health issues and exploitation of those that may or may not be experiencing any of those (or many other) issues. Because I am driving - most of the time in bumper to bumper traffic - I have no interaction with the people or environment within these images. I suspect there is no truth to these images other than the moment itself that can be drawn from any single image. Some viewers will lean toward exploitation; so far, the few viewers of this work have not. But I hope to provide at least some evidence for the viewer to consider as the body of work develops.

Thank you to those who create, those who post their creations out to the world and most importantly, those that seek out the content and encourage more creation.

More to come...
