Skate photography/ Architecture photography (a concrete bond) tips and tricks
As I've been getting in to skate photography and experimenting with a few things.
In the past I had a strong addiction with architecture photography that went on for a while. While learning about composition I had the privilege to live in an town that used to produce coal and is now full of decaying coal mines and factories. I'm saying privilege because in these condition you can play around with minimal and simplistic compositions of an architecture as such. so or a while that's what i did.

Another example is this ''wall''.
Skate is another thing close to heart. I used to do it when i was younger then again for a summer two years ago. Anyhow I always kept this warm feeling towards the sport. This in mind I've always thought about skate photography and never really did anything about it but the occasional fisheye shot..
and i kinda left it behind.
In the last year i started to shoot film a lot and this drove new perspective of what and how i shoot. I'm happy and stoked about film cause to put it simply got me further in to photography.
Shooting analog shots of skateboarding on the other hand is such a natural thing. The old school vibe, the nostalgia, the roughness and texture, the trickery and art of both... Its like they just go hand in hand.
Like those two bros :D
and this mess here when not i wast thinking about the speed of my subject at all :D
The connection between atractive architecture and skate photography or me is really strong and being able to practice on architecture only :) is a boost to what i want to achieve and helps me with composition now a lot.
The symbiosis between how you compose the skater on the background can make a drastic difference in how much 'pop' the shot has. for instace you can comare these
Here the board and the rider are lost within the background.
Another thing is that skaters are really good photo inspectors. From a photo they want to see all about the trick - where is the flyoff and where is he landing or what trick is being done. This is really important part of shooting skate- it has to give the information about the trick.
And herer the white wall makes the rider visible. He is in perfect contrast with the background and you can see where he jumped, over what and where he lands.
There are no rules in photography so this is just a guide and a tip :)
Now that weather is getting king of spring-ish here in Bulgaria am stoked on developing more skills in skate shooting and action photography :)
Be sure to follow the progress on Instagram @filminit for analog photography or @rofuckinro for digital aswell
Thanks for checking this post :)
Nice skate photos. I used to skate in the 90s. The bottom one looks worthy of thrasher.
Love your comment 🙂 I really want to make the youngsters believe that they are worth a page and a sponsor.. in Bulgaria that doesn’t happen much now but I hope trough more photos and videos more will get exposure :)
