Scotty's Castle
This place is in Death Valley National Park. The building didn't really belong to Scotty, but he was welcome there and a great story teller!
The story of Albert Johnson and Scotty is an interesting one. Scotty was a con man who told east coast residents that he owned a gold mine in Death Valley. Many of them were convinced and wouldn't dare visiting Death Valley to check on their investments. Albert Johnson was brave enough to investigate and presented a problem for Scotty's made up business. While coming to visit the supposed gold mine, Albert was in for a surprise. Scotty hired a friend of his to fake a shoot out to scare away the investor. It seemed that the rich man from the east coast would run away and never come back to check on the gold mine investments. Unfortunately, the shooter didn't harmlessly fire in the air, but actually did shoot someone in Albert's investment party. Scotty ran towards the shooter to call him off and Albert knew it was all a set up. However, he wasn't mad, he was amused. In a combination of appreciating Scotty's wild stories and way of life and benefiting from the dry air of Death Valley, Albert decided to move to the area and visit Scotty more often. The building is Albert Johnson's residence, but Scotty was there much of the time.
