"Photo Shoot - Lake Sacajawea, Longview, WA, USA - 23 Dec. 2019" by Richard F. Yates
My younger daughter, Elise, recently bought a fancy new camera, a Canon EOS T6 (we don't know much about cameras, but the reviews we read said this was a solid beginner model), and she decided that she wanted to do some Christmas pictures up at "The Lake," while it still has all the lights up. Thus, despite having a cold, and the near freezing temperatures outside, and the rather foggy visibility conditions, Ellie, Mariah ("The Wife"), and I made our way lake-ward to see what we could see. Ellie used her camera to get some amazing photos---but those are her pictures, and I'll let her decide if and when she wants to publish them.
Meanwhile, I ALSO took some pictures of our adventure with my plain, old, limited phone camera. (However!!! I did have on finger-tip-less gloves, which made it easier to use my touchscreen...and might have been cheating...) Here's what I captured on our ramble through the NIGHT AND FOG:
So, obviously, Ellie's camera took clearer, more detailed images, AND she had a couple of different lenses to choose from, including a wide-angle lense, which was pretty cool, but even with my phone's limited capabilities, I'm happy with a lot of my shots. (This is just a small sampling of what I snapped.) The fog in the air gave everything a ghostly, dream-like ambiance, and I tend to be drawn to light anomalies, so those are MOST of what I tried to capture.
Ellie had the best line of the night, though, when she said, "I wish I could just take a picture with my eye." The fog, along with our inexperience with photography, meant that the images we were capturing weren't exactly what we were seeing! (Especially on the few shots we tried using the FLASH! Those look like we're being surrounded by ghostly vapors... Eerie, and kind of cool, in my opinion, but, like I said, I'll let her decide if, when, and where she wants to share the shots she took!)
Okay! Thanks for walking the lake with us! Now go have some hot cocoa (maybe with a shot of peppermint schnapps or two in it), and have a happy holidays!!!!
