Travel Post - Accra, Ghana
Today, I wanted to share some pictures from the Tetteh Quarshie Art Market aka The Artist Market in Accra. It is an amazing market to buy just about any form of art or piece of Ghanian clothing.
The city of Accra as well as Tema (the neighboring port city) are easy to get around - either by tro tro (public transit) or by a taxi. Accra was a fun, safe city with great nightlife and the friendliest people you will ever meet.
The picture below was an accidental double exposure, which I thought came out pretty cool. These two men were sculptors at the Artist Market but the image behind it is one I took while paddling around the Mekong River in Vietnam.
Ghana also has some amazing cuisine ... like fufu and goat soup or banku and fish. Both fufu and banku have a very different consistency than anything I've tasted before. Fufu is made from pounding plantains and cassava into a sticky paste. You eat it with your hand (right hand only in these parts, left should be kept below the table) and dip it into the spicy soup it is served with. Banku is similar. It is a mix of fermented corn, hot spices, and cassava. Both taste plain on their own but super good with the meat or fish their served with. Give them a try if you happen to visit!
