Bellmont Iron Works Catalan Forge, Chateaugay Lake Outlet, by UNKNOWN
This 16-fire Catalan Forge, owned by the Chateaugay Ore & Iron Co., the largest of its kind in the world, produced pig iron ingots. The flume is located at the very right of this photo, taken after 1880. To the left, about four beehive kilns, which produced charcoal to fire the forges, are visible. As to the Bellmont Iron Works forge, the company town, including a hotel, doctor's office, school, post office and company store, absolutely nothing remains today except for a few cellars.
