Our Paddling Trip on Lake Huron - A Much Needed Vacation
Last week my husband, kisses.420 and I went to Tobermorey to visit my Mother-in-law who just so happens to live smack dab on the shore of Lake Huron. It was heavenly.
The ride up was long but a lot of fun. Along the way we happened to spot the most magnificent horses! Of course, we had to turn around and go back to admire them:

It was a long trip so Miss Tilly was very tired:
The next morning I woke to the sound of waves lapping the shore and couldn't resist jumping in my kayak for a paddle. I took some video which is quite tricky to do from a kayak but I really wanted to share this experience with you.
Kayaking on Dorcas Bay is what I imagine paddling the surface of the moon would be like because of all the amazing rock. It's funny as I was paddling over the various rock formations I kept thinking, "I bet @thekittygirl would love this." I hope you enjoy the footage:

I couldn't resist taking a photo of this resilient little tree. It's poor roots are flooded and the waves pound it but still it stands. It's rather inspiring really.
On the third day we rose to a thick blanket of fog which slowly faded away and then the storm raged through. It was beautiful! As the sun started to shine we decided to head to town to explore.
Tobermorey has become quite a tourist attraction. There is a ferry which departs from the harbor called the Chichimon which takes people across to Manitoulin Island, a well known destination for those that want to experience a beautiful Northern Ontario adventure. It is the world's largest freshwater island.
Unfortunately, none of the boats were running because of the strong winds so I wasn't able to get any pics for you but the harbor was beautiful.
Everything was so clean which is quite amazing when you consider the number of people who visit Tobermorey this time of year.
The various specialty shops have very pretty storefronts and you can even grab a classic Canadian treat from Beaver Tails
Walking around town there were pretty little gardens all over the place.
We arrived back at Chez Cliche (my Mother-in-law's home) just in time for a lovely chili dinner and an evening of stargazing. Tobermorey has a by-law about outdoor lighting and I for one am grateful. Light pollution is a problem that they take seriously. All lights must be capped in some way so that they don't shine up into the sky. As a result, stargazing is glorious!
Our time up North was a much needed holiday. When we packed up the car to drive home we all felt much more relaxed and ready to get back to the real world.
If you get the chance to explore the Bruce Peninsula I would suggest you take it. There's a boardwalk and trails at Singing Sands where you will find wild orchids and excellent birding.
If you enjoy hiking the Bruce Trails are just the ticket. You have the option to choose between B&B's or camping. Northern Ontario is rugged and beautiful. Enjoy it!

I love it. Thank You for putting this all together. This is my Father's birthplace he was born in Stoke's Bay. His Dad was the first white man born in Stoke's Bay, my family was early settlers of the Bruce.
