It is really wastage to send SBD to @buildawhale. Here i sent 1.05 SBD and I got 0.96 SBD only - the curation @ 25% would be 0.24 cents, so a total loss for me in this is 0.24+0.04 = 0.28 SBD.
That's why we recommend 0.10 - 0.50 bids as per our profile page. The total pot is $3.40 but we are looking at growing it significantly. It also depends on what other people are bidding at the time. The last bidding round was really crowded, but I have seen others bid $1 and make out well. I would not recommend doing $1 bids as it depends on how many bids are in at the time unless you don't see many bids in. Also the price of steem/sbd has been dropping significant which is reducing the value of upvotes across all of steemit.
