The incredible firefall of Yosemite Park

Mother Nature set up her annual show again in Yosemite National Park, California, where, on certain days of February, the setting sun casts a thin ray of light over a waterfall and turns it luminous like a cascade of burning lava.

The phenomenon known as "firefall", or waterfall fire, attracts dozens of photographers to a spot near the Horsetail waterfall, which falls on the granite face of the famous rock formation El Capitan.

It is not an easy spectacle to witness. The waterfall only occurs in winter or boreal spring, when snow and rain abound. The setting sun illuminates the waterfall for a couple of minutes on certain February days.
