Turi è un piccolo borgo nella provincia di Bari, nella regione meridionale italiana della Puglia. E' situata dove la pianura calcarea pugliese, chiamata Murgia, inizia a lasciare il posto alla Valle d'Itria.

La storia risale al periodo bizantino, sebbene sia stata fondata nell'antico insediamento greco di Thuria. La città subì molte invasioni e mutamenti politici e passò attraverso il potere di vari signori feudali.

Il Palazzo Marchesale di Turi è la testimonianza della storia passata della città. L'edificio ha un piano terra, con rovine del periodo normanno, risalente al 11 ° secolo, un primo piano con alcune caratteristiche che si riferiscono al vecchio castello baronale di Moles e un secondo piano che testimonia il cambiamento del sedicesimo secolo dal castello al palazzo di oggi con aspetto barocco.

In quel periodo, quando arrivarono i marchesi Venusio, feudatari di Turi nel 1752, al piano terra c'erano probabilmente le prigioni, la legnaia, le stalle, le cantine, il magazzino, la neviera, il giardino murato e un cortile con una scala per salire al piano di sopra.
Il prospetto su largo Marchesale, è caratterizzato da un lungo balcone su mensoloni con porte-finestre timpanate.

La Chiesa di Sant'Oronzo alla Grotta è dedicata al santo patrono della città. Il turista può scendere alla cripta, pavimentata in maioliche, dove si dice che il santo, che era il vescovo di Lecce, si nascose quando i Romani lo perseguitarono.
Un monumentale edificio religioso a pianta quadrangolare a croce greca, la cui costruzione iniziò nel 1727, grazie alle offerte dei fedeli, per soddisfare l'esigenza di un ingresso più ampio alla grotta di S. Oronzio. Da qui, una scalinata monumentale con gradini finemente scolpiti e preziosa balaustra in ferro battuto conduce nella cripta.
Molto importante è la festa in suo onore alla fine di agosto.

La Chiesa Madre è la "chiesa principale" e la più antica. Situata nel centro storico, la Chiesa Madre dedicata a Santa Maria Assunta ha una facciata neoclassica ed è riccamente decorata all'interno. Divisa in tre navate, è possibile ammirare preziose opere in legno come il pulpito, la cantoria con organo, il sontuoso altare maggiore e due sculture, la Vergine col Bambino e la Trinità. Affascinanti sono anche i dipinti del Settencento napoletano, come la raffigurazione dell'Assunta, posta sull'altare maggiore e la cappella privata dei baroni di Moles. Il campanile fu aggiunto nel 1730.

La piccola chiesa di San Rocco è l'unica chiesa medievale rimasta nella città. La Chiesa e il convento di San Giovanni Battista furono costruiti appena fuori le mura della città nella seconda metà del XVI secolo. L'edificio di culto presenta una navata con cappelle sul lato destro e altari sul lato sinistro. Vicino alla chiesa si trova la Torre dell'Orologio, un vero simbolo dello sviluppo urbano ottocentesco di Turi. È tra le migliori torri d'orologio della terra di Bari ed è stato costruita nel 1892.

Turi è nota per la sua particolare varietà di ciliegia, una specialità che cresce qui dando alla città il nome di "città della ciliegia Ferrovia". Produce anche olio d'oliva, vino primitivo e mandorle.

Turi is a small town in the province of Bari, in the southern Italian region of Puglia. It sits where the Puglia limestone plain, called the Murgia, starts to give way to the Valle d'Itria.

The history goes back to the Byzantine period, though it was established on the ancient Greek settlement of Thuriae. The town underwent many invasions and political shiftings, and was passed around various feudal lords.

The Marquis Palace of Turi bears the signs of the past history of the town. The building has a ground floor, with ruins of the Norman period, dating back to the 11th century, a first floor with some features which refer to the old baronial castle of Moles, and a second floor which testifies to the change of the sixteenth-century castle into the nowadays palace with baroque appearance.

In that period, when arrived the marquises Venusio, feudatories of Turi in 1752, on the ground floor there were probably the prisons, the woodshed, the stables, the cellars, the storage room, the neviera, walled-up garden and a courtyard with a staircase to go upstairs.
The facade overlooking largo Marchesale is characterised by a balcony on corbels with door windows with gables.

The Church of Sant'Oronzo alla Grotta is dedicated to the town's patron saint of the town. Tourist may go down to the crypt, paved in maiolica tiles, where it is said the saint, who was the bishop of Lecce, hid when the Romans persecuted him.
A monumental religious building with a quadrangular, Greek-cross plan, its construction began in 1727, thanks to the faithful’s offerings, in order to suit the need for a larger entrance hall to the cave of St. Orontius. From here, a monumental staircase with finely-chiseled steps and precious wrought-iron balustrade leads into the crypt.
Very important is the festival in his honor on the end of August.

The Mother Church is the "main church" and the oldest. Located in the old town centre, the Mother Church dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary has a neo-classical façade and is richly decorated inside. Divided into three aisles, it is possible to admire precious wooden artworks such as the pulpit, the choir with organ, the sumptuous main altar and two sculptures, the Virgin and Child and the Trinity. Fascinating are also the paintings of the Neapolitan XVIII century, such as the depiction of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, placed on the main altar, and the private chapel of Moles barons. The bell tower was added in 1730.

The tiny Church of San Rocco is the only remaining medieval church in the city. The Church and convent of St. John Baptist were built just outside the city walls in the second half of the XVI century. The worship building presents a nave with chapels on the right side and altars on the left one. Near the church stands the Clock Tower, a real symbol of the nineteenth-century urban development of Turi. It is among the finest clock towers in the Land of Bari and it was built in 1892.

Turi is known for its particular variety of cherry, a specialty that grows here giving the town the name "town of the ferrovia cherry". It also produces olive oil, primitivo wine and almonds.
